Overview
Goal: A clean folk, country, and singer-songwriter guitar rig running six guitars through Loopy Pro 2.05 with AUV3 plugins. Follow all steps in order. Complete each step fully before moving to the next. The Scarlett Solo's two instrument inputs allow both an electric and acoustic guitar to remain plugged in simultaneously — switching is done by muting and soloing tracks in Loopy Pro.

Most important setting: Quantization at 1 bar ensures every loop snaps to an exact bar length and stays locked to tempo. This is what makes looping feel effortless rather than frustrating.

Bluetooth Devices — MWav Chocolate

MIDI mapping for the Chocolate footswitches (mute/solo tracks, bypass reverb, scene changes, expression pedal for reverb mix) is covered in a separate dedicated session. For now, just confirm the connection is working.

With both guitars plugged into Inputs 1 and 2 simultaneously, you switch instruments by muting and soloing tracks — no cable swapping mid-session. The Scarlett Solo's dual instrument inputs make this possible.

Loopy Pro's built-in HPF replaces the first Pro-Q4 instance from older versions of this guide — it frees up an AUV3 plugin slot and saves CPU. Set it on the channel strip, not in a plugin slot.

The Scarlett Solo halo ring must stay GREEN at all times — even during your hardest strumming. Amber means clipping. Reduce the gain knob if you see amber — never try to recover clipping in software.

0 dB = unity gain — not silence. Neutral position, output matches input. Mix at 50% (default) means half dry guitar, half amp model blended together — always change to 100% so the signal passes fully through the amp model. After setting Mix to 100%, tone-check the amp before touching Pro-C3 or Pro-Q4 — build tone one layer at a time.

How to Add and Configure Bands
  1. 1Double-click anywhere on the frequency display to add a new band at that frequency
  2. 2Click the band to reveal controls: frequency, gain (dB), Q (width), and filter type
  3. 3Set filter type per band — HP, Bell, Low Shelf, High Shelf (scroll through selector for all types)
  4. 4Drag the band dot up to boost, down to cut
  5. 5Adjust Q — lower Q = wider, more musical. Higher Q = narrow, surgical. Start at Q 1.0–2.0 for most cuts
  6. 6For Dynamic EQ bands: click band → enable Dynamic → set threshold so it only cuts when signal exceeds that level
Key Rules
  • Each frequency adjustment in the Rig Reference = one separate band. You cannot combine multiple adjustments into one band
  • The T5z requires 5 bands — HP at 100Hz, +0.5dB at 180Hz, −2dB dynamic at 400Hz, +1dB at 2kHz, −1dB at 10kHz
  • High-Pass filter (HP) has no gain control — just frequency and slope. Set frequency, choose HP type, done
  • For Loopy Pro's built-in HPF on acoustic channels: Cutoff = 80Hz (316ce) or 100Hz (GS Mini, T5z piezo), Q = 0.7 for smooth rolloff. Q of 1.0 adds a small resonant bump at cutoff — avoid it
Q of 0.7 on a High-Pass filter gives the smoothest, most transparent cutoff (Butterworth response). Q of 1.0 adds a subtle resonant emphasis at the cutoff frequency — this can thicken the bass rather than cutting it, which is the opposite of what you want on the acoustic channel.

Dry Gain INF means negative infinity dB — silence. This is correct. It means no dry (uncompressed) signal is blending in, which is what you want. Wet Gain Auto is also correct — leave both as they are. The Telecaster's 8ms attack is intentional — it lets the pick click and string snap pass through before compression kicks in, which is what gives the Tele its twangy character.

Built-In EQ Lines — How to Use Them
  • 100% line = Pre-EQ — EQs the signal before it enters the reverb. Use this for the Lo Cut. Click the curve at the target frequency to get: % (gain), Q (width), filter type (Bell / Shelf — scroll for HP)
  • 50% line = Post-EQ — EQs the reverb tail after it's generated. Use for a gentle high shelf cut (−1dB at 8–10kHz) to warm the tail
  • The % on these EQ controls is gain scaled — drag down for a cut, up for a boost. Play by ear rather than hitting exact numbers

Ducking is essential for folk and country. It pulls the reverb level back while you're playing so your picking and chord changes stay clear, then lets the reverb bloom naturally in the spaces between phrases. Start at 20–25% ducking amount — subtle but immediately noticeable. Once you hear it working you won't want to play without it.

Loading IRs — Step by Step
  1. 1Open IMPULSation in the plugin chain
  2. 2Tap the file browser / folder icon

Never use Dreadnought or Jumbo IRs on the GS Mini or T5z piezo — too boomy. Match IR body size to guitar body size. Decay at minimum is critical — if Decay is left high (10s+), IMPULSation becomes a reverb on top of Pro-R2, creating a washy double-reverb effect. Keep IMPULSation focused on body character only. The −2dB cut at 2.5kHz in Pro-Q4 combined with the Parlor IR is the key combination for natural GS Mini tone.

Save as Template

Also save per-guitar presets inside each AUV3 plugin (ToneX, Pro-C3, Pro-Q4, Pro-R2). Name them "T5z Humbucker", "Tele Clean", "316ce Acoustic" etc. Switching guitars then means loading the right preset in each plugin — one tap per plugin.
